GEOFFREY RANKIN

VFX LIGHTING ARTIST

Geoffrey Rankin is a Visual Effects (VFX) artist originally from Huntsville, Alabama. He received a B.F.A with a concentration in Animation from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and continued education in VFX by pursuing an MA in Visual Effects from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Geoffrey is trained in traditional artistic skills and modern CG software such as Maya and Unreal Engine. During his undergrad he was able to be involved in several collaborative film and game projects in leading roles, such as project manager and VFX/Lighting Lead.

Geoffrey's specialties mainly lie within CG lighting and rendering. He has always been detail oriented and had an affinity for the lighting process from both a creative and technical standpoint. He has trained with and created work within a wide variety of CG renderers across both Pre-rendered and real-time, aimed typically at realism using a PBR workflow. Geoffrey's strongest software specialties are the Arnold renderer within Maya for pre-rendered and Unreal Engine 5 for real time lighting using Lumen. Most of his work is pointed at the video game and animation industries. His Master of Arts project was focused on the use of lighting for effective game cinematic storytelling captured within a real-time engine. 

Geoffrey  prides himself on solid fundamentals combined with a creative edge driven by a passion for what he does. He also enjoys watching movies, sewing, and photography as hobbies
